CoveyLove Legacy Fund Scholarship

The CoveyLove Legacy Fund  has endowed a scholarship  with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation  which is  awarded annually to a rising junior or senior  at Purdue University with a major in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The prestigious Astronaut Scholarship is known nationwide for being among the largest merit-based monetary scholarships awarded to undergraduate STEM juniors and seniors. ASF has a life-long relationship with each Astronaut Scholar and provides them with mentors, professional and personal development and networking with astronauts, C-suite level executives and industry leaders to help advance their careers.  

Past Scholarship Winners

2023: Sydney Hummel

Sydney Hummel is a junior at Purdue University, and a Chemical Engineering Major. Her area of study and career interest is focused on oncology therapeutics and drug development research, particularly in the field of immunology. She is driven by a deep curiosity to understand the complexities of the human body, specifically in relation to diseases like cancer, and is motivated by the potential to make immediate impacts on patients’ lives. Her ultimate goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in an oncology-focused chemical engineering research group, aiming to contribute to the field of oncology research and find answers to the questions surrounding incurable diseases.

2022: Jacob Halpern

Jacob Halpern is a senior at Purdue University, majoring in Nuclear Engineering with a minor in Physics. His work and research are focused  in the field of Electric Propulsion, specifically as it pertains to advances in the technology necessary for interstellar travel. He plans on exploring this further in graduate school.

2021: Abigail Sipes

Abigail is a senior studying Biochemistry at Purdue University.  She has performed labwork  to  map out the biochemical pathway of plant metabolism and isotopically labeling amino acids to identify amino acid-derived metabolites.  During the summer of 2021, she interned with Bayer Pharmaceuticals working on potential Hemophilia therapies. Abigail hopes to make an impact through her research in drug development and to discover novel therapies. After graduation,  she plans to attend graduate school to pursue a PhD in immunology.

2020: Maia Clare

Maia Clare is  a senior at Purdue University with a major in biology (genetics).  At Purdue, Maia  conducts immunology research on auto-immune disorders but hopes to study cancer and complex immune disorders with a goal to  contribute to  the field of precision medicine.  She plans on continuing her work and research as she explores PHD programs after graduating from Purdue.
